About

Building safety systems that scale

I’m Aaron Rodericks — I lead Trust & Safety at Bluesky, designing the moderation operations, policy, and governance systems behind a 45M-user platform.

I’ve built and run trust & safety systems at scale at two defining platforms — Twitter/X and Bluesky — with earlier roots in government. Today I work at the frontier of decentralized social media and AI safety.

Career highlights

From public-sector governance to global platform integrity, I’ve built Trust & Safety systems that operate under scale, speed, and regulatory pressure.

01

Bluesky Social

As one of Bluesky’s earliest hires, I solo-scaled the Trust & Safety function from a sub-3-million-user protocol experiment to roughly25 million users before building the team behind it. I navigated a million-user-per-day growth surge, 250,000 user reports in a single day, the establishment of new legal entities globally, and regulatory compliance across the EU DSA and the UK and Australian Online Safety Acts — all at a pre-revenue startup. Bluesky now serves 45M+ users; I report to the CEO and lead a team of 105 — a 24/7 moderation operation backed by proactive AI detection.

02

Twitter / X

Over five years at Twitter, I led the Site Integrity team in Dublin — a team of 25 — before taking over Threat Disruption globally. My portfolio covered scaled threats, election integrity, influence operations, misinformation, and coordinated inauthentic behavior. After the 2022 acquisition, I served as one of the global Trust & Safety co-leads.

03

Canadian Federal Government

I spent over a decade in the Canadian Federal Government — Global Affairs Canada, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, the National Research Council, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I was part of a small team that pioneered “direct diplomacy” — using social media data to maintain engagement in destabilized states after traditional diplomatic channels had collapsed. My research into extremist networks contributed to the formation of the Global Coalition Against Daesh/ISIS.
